The agreement

Terms of use

Version 2026-10 · effective 18 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Humanity in Business Solutions ("HIBS", "we"), the company that operates Synapse Cura at synapsecura.com. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. Read them with the privacy policy, which explains how your data is handled, and the disclaimer.

We have written them in plain language on purpose. Where the law in your country gives you stronger rights as a consumer or as a patient, those rights apply and nothing here takes them away.

1. What Synapse Cura is, and is not

Synapse Cura is a communication and coordination tool. A person receiving mental health care keeps one record of their story, their medication, how they are doing between appointments and what has been agreed, and decides which of their clinicians sees which part. Their clinicians read it, add to it and coordinate with each other in one place, with the person's agreement.

  • It is not a medical practice, a treatment, a diagnostic tool or a replacement for seeing a clinician. Nothing in it diagnoses, recommends treatment or interprets your data for you; diagnoses and decisions in your record are made and written by your own clinicians.
  • It is not a crisis or emergency service and nobody monitors it in real time. If you may be in danger, or someone else is, call your local emergency number (112 across the European Union) or a crisis line. A message, check-in or entry in Synapse Cura is read when the person it is shared with next opens it, which may be days later.
  • It is built for outpatient and community care of adults who manage their own record. It is not designed for crisis, in-patient, forensic or involuntary care.
  • The practice library is educational material between appointments. It is not treatment, and practitioner-delivered practices open only when one of your clinicians has prescribed them. Talk to your doctor before starting anything new if you are pregnant or have a heart, lung or mental health condition.

2. Who can use it

  • People receiving care must be adults (18 or older) who manage their own care. A person under 18 may take part only where the rules of their country allow it and a guardian has been verified by a clinician, as described in the app.
  • Clinicians (therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors and other registered practitioners) must hold the qualification and registration they state, apply for verification, and keep their details current. We check every application by hand against the professional register before it can join a care team, and we record what we checked.
  • One person, one account. An account is either a professional account or an account of a person receiving care, never both. A clinician who also receives care creates a separate account with a different email address.
  • Loved ones and guardians take part only through an invitation from the person, at the level the person chose, and can be removed by the person at any time.

3. Your account

  • Use a working email address and a password of at least 12 characters that you use nowhere else. Professionals and administrators must also set up a second factor (an authenticator app) before they can open anyone's record.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Tell us at once at info@humanityinbusiness.com if you think someone else has used your account; we can end all sessions and help you secure it.
  • You are signed out after a period without activity to protect your record on a shared device. Signing in with Google, where offered, uses Google's own account; we receive only the email address and the confirmation that it is yours.

4. Your record and your choices

  • What you write is yours. You decide which clinician sees which part: the in-depth record, medication, check-ins and hard moments, life context and questionnaires are switched on separately for each person on your team. What you have not shared stays hidden.
  • You see every opening of your record by a clinician, a guardian or an administrator, with the date and what was opened.
  • Clinical entries are a history. What a clinician has recorded is not edited or deleted afterwards; a correction is a new entry that points to the old one, and you can add your own context next to any entry. This protects you as much as it protects the clinician.
  • You can download your whole record at any time, remove any clinician or loved one, pause a clinician you do not feel safe with (their access stops immediately and a person reviews the report), and ask for your account and data to be deleted. The privacy policy explains what is kept after deletion and why.
  • Depending on your level of care, a change to your team sometimes waits a short handover period or needs a guardian's agreement. You always see why.

5. Additional terms for clinicians

If you use Synapse Cura as a clinician, the following also applies to you, in addition to the rules of your profession and the law of the country where you practise.

  • You remain fully responsible for your clinical judgement, decisions and professional conduct. Synapse Cura gives you information the person chose to share; it does not assess, prioritise or decide anything for you.
  • Synapse Cura is not your legal medical record. You keep your own professional documentation as your profession and the law require, and you keep it if the person ends the link. You remain the controller of that documentation; Synapse Cura holds a shared record under the person's control.
  • Open only what you need for the person's care. Every opening is logged and visible to the person. You cannot link yourself to a person or widen your own access; both happen only through the person's invitation and choices.
  • Treat what you read as confidential. Do not copy another clinician's entries or the person's words into materials outside the care relationship, and do not share access to your account.
  • When you leave a care team, your entries stay in the person's history under your name; your access ends. Shared care includes a short handover period so nobody is left without a clinician.
  • Between-visit reviews, where you offer them, are not an emergency channel and the person is told so. You set your own response window and scope, and you decide whether a change needs an appointment or a new prescription under your national rules.
  • Your verification can be withdrawn if your registration lapses, on a credible safety report, or on misuse. We tell you why, and the people you care for are told that they need another clinician, not why.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • enter information about another person as if it were your own, or without the right to do so;
  • attempt to access a record, account or data you are not entitled to, probe or test the security of the service without our written agreement, or interfere with its operation;
  • use automated tools to scrape, copy or load the service, or use it to send unsolicited messages;
  • use the service to harass, threaten or deceive anyone, or in breach of the law.

We may suspend or end access that breaks these rules. Where it is safe and lawful, we tell you first and give you a chance to respond.

7. Fees

  • Synapse Cura is free for people receiving care, always.
  • Professional and clinic accounts are free during the pilot. Any future fee will be published in advance and will apply only after you have agreed to it; nothing is charged silently.
  • We never fund the service by selling or renting personal data, and no employer, insurer, pharmaceutical company or advertiser has access to any record or workspace.

8. Content and intellectual property

  • Your data belongs to you (or, for professional documentation, to the clinician who wrote it). You give us only the permission we need to store, display and transmit it in order to run the service for you, and nothing more.
  • The software, the design, the practice library and the Synapse Cura name and marks are ours or licensed to us. You may use them within the service; you may not copy, resell or build on them without our written agreement. Educational content in the library cites its sources and is not clinical advice.
  • Clinicians who publish their own practices in the library keep their rights and allow us to show them to the people they prescribe them to.

9. Availability and changes to the service

  • We work to keep the service available and to tell you about planned maintenance, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. Do not rely on Synapse Cura as your only copy of anything you need urgently; you can export your record at any time.
  • We may add, change or remove features. We will not remove your ability to see and export your own record, and we will tell you before a change that affects how your data is shared.
  • During the pilot, some features are marked "In clinical review" or switched off. They are not to be relied on for clinical decisions until the review is complete.

10. Responsibility and liability

  • Clinicians are responsible for their clinical decisions; people receiving care are responsible for what they choose to record and share; we are responsible for running the service with the care described in the privacy policy and on the privacy and security page.
  • To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss that follows from a clinical decision, from information you chose to share or not to share, from your use of the service against these terms, or from events outside our reasonable control.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for breaches of data protection law, and nothing limits your statutory rights as a consumer or as a data subject.

11. Ending the agreement

  • You can stop using Synapse Cura at any time. Export your record first if you want a copy, then ask for deletion from the Me page or by email. We confirm within one month what was deleted and what was kept, and why.
  • We may end your access if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop providing the service. In the last case we give at least three months' notice and keep export available throughout.
  • A clinician's entries remain part of the histories of the people they cared for after the clinician's account ends; their own professional documentation stays with them.

12. Law, disputes and complaints

  • These terms are governed by the law of the country in which HIBS is established, without depriving you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in the country where you live. Disputes go to the competent courts under those rules; if you are a consumer you may also bring a claim where you live.
  • Talk to us first: info@humanityinbusiness.com. We answer within ten working days. You can also complain to the consumer protection authority or, about your data, to the data protection authority in your country.

13. Changes to these terms

When we change these terms in a way that matters, we show you the new version in the app and ask you to accept it before you continue; the version you accepted is recorded with its date. Smaller corrections are published here with a new date. The current version number is at the top of this page.
